Thirty Compton Bassett parishioners on Saturday responded to a call from the parochial church council and went to the Norman church of St. Swithins to give the building a spring clean. The volunteers, who included Mrs Bridget Baddley, 80 and three-year-old James Rickett, were joined by the rector, the Rev. Leslie Roose-Francis, who got his hand in at the brass cleaning.
A ploughman’ lunch was served to the workers at The Old Rectory, Compton Bassett, home of Mrs M. Rickett.
The church treasurer, Mrs Serena Henly, thanked helpers.
